DataSplice Frequently Asked Questions

This document provides answers to frequently asked questions about the DataSplice Mobile Integration Suite.

General

I see a lot on your site about DataSplice working with MAXIMO®. Will DataSplice work if I use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) other than MAXIMO®?
Yes. DataSplice is highly configurable, and will work with numerous systems. Please contact us at datasplice@datasplice.com if you would like to inquire about your specific systems.

What do I need in order to run the DataSplice Mobile Integration Suite?
For a full list of requirements, please see the requirements section of the installation manual corresponding to the DataSplice component of interest.

Which mobile device is best suited for my needs?
Visit the Recommended Handhelds section for mobile computing options that are compatible with the DataSplice Mobile Integration Suite

DataSplice Administration Client

What is the DataSplice Administration Client?
The DataSplice Administration Client provides a simple interface that can be used to completely administer a DataSplice installation anywhere on a network. Using the Administration Client, administrators can completely configure the DataSplice Server to fit the specific needs of their business environment. For more information about the DataSplice Administration Client, please see our Administration Client Overview page.

How do I use the DataSplice Administration Client?
For complete instructions for using the DataSplice Administration Client, please see our DataSplice Administration Client User Manual page.

No views are showing up for my users.
The user may not have access to any views. Use the Administration Client to view the permissions for the user and any member groups to make sure that the desired views are available. For more information, please see the DataSplice Administration Client User Manual.

I have created an ODBC data source, but it does not show up in the DataSplice Administration Client.
This may be due to the fact that the DataSplice Administration Client needs to be refreshed before it can see this new data source. To accomplish this, you can disconnect and then reconnect. Click File > Disconnect and then File > Connect.

Alternatively, this coul also be a result of the ODBC DSN being created as a User DSN, rather than a System DSN, and that user is not currently logged in. This, in turn, causes the DSN to be currently inactive. Please see the Creating an ODBC Data Source page for additional details and recommneded settings.

I have made changes in the DataSplice Administration Client, and have clicked the Update button. But when I restart the DataSplice Server, I do not see my changes.
Clicking the Update button only updates changes with the server in memory. It does not save the server configurations to disk. To do this, click File > Save Server Config after you make your changes.

I tried to free up some licenses by shutting down the DataSplice Server. The licenses are being used in offline sessions. But when I restarted the DataSplice Server, the license sessions were not freed up.
Shutting down and restarting the DataSplice Server does not release licenses acquired through offline sessions. The administrator can revoke the offline license using the Status tab in the Administration Client, but in doing so, will prevent the offline client from being able to reconnect with that session and commit their changes. Generally, the only time you would want to revoke offline sessions is if the session has been orphaned and you need to free up the offline license.

DataSplice Remote Client

What is the DataSplice Remote Client?
The DataSplice Remote Client provides real-time or offline data access to any enterprise data with a simple, easy-to-use interface. DataSplice users can access just the information they need, when they need it, in the order in which they need it.

For more information about the DataSplice Remote Client, please see our Remote Client Overview page.

How do I use the DataSplice Remote Client?
For a detailed discussion of how to use the DataSplice Remote Client, please refer to the DataSplice Remote Client User Manual for Work Order Views, Inventory Views, and Equipment Views.

I am entering the correct user name and password combination, but it will not let me connect.

If you are sure that you have the correct user name and password combination, please be sure that you are entering them in all upper case format. DataSplice is case-sensitive. Login with your information in upper case and you should be connected.

For future connections, you can have DataSplice automatically make your login information go to upper case. Click the File > Connection Settings menu item. In the Connection Settings dialog box, select the Upper Case Login setting by double clicking it. This will cause the DataSplice Remote Client to automatically put your login information into upper case format.

When I connect, no views show up in the Select View screen.
There are two possible causes to this problem:
  1. First, the user may not have access to any views in the first place. For more information, please refer to the FAQ listing titled "No views are showing up for my users".
  2. Secondly, remember that DataSplice is case-sensitive but the MAXIMO® software authentication system is not. This means that you can login with a lower-case username and be authenticated, but DataSplice will not associate any of the correct view permissions. You will want to login with your information in all upper case. For more information, please see the previous FAQ entry titled "I am entering the correct user name and password combination, but it will not let me connect".
