Installation Overview

This page provides an overview of the steps necessary to install the various DataSplice components.

The DataSplice Suite consists of a Server that responds to queries and requests from Remote Clients and a set of interface modules that perform all necessary business logic when modifying database information. Because there are several different interacting components, the installation will go much more smoothly if the steps are performed in a particular order.

Since DataSplice is a suite of networked components, several different machines may be involved in the installation process. For consistency, the following terms will be used in this document:

  • DataSplice Server Machine - This is the computer that the DataSplice Server will be installed on.
  • Database Machine - This is the machine that is running the database that DataSplice will connect to, which may or may not be the same physical computer as the DataSplice Server Machine.
  • Administration Workstation - This is the computer that will be used primarily to administrate the DataSplice Server. Again, this may or may not be the same physical machine as the DataSplice Server Machine.

Installation Steps

Note: If you are running anti-virus software, please disable it while performing the DataSplice installation. If the anti-virus software is left enabled, certain components of DataSplice will not install correctly.

The recommended process to install the DataSplice Suite is to install the DataSplice Server software on the DataSplice Server Machine and the Administration Client and Remote Client on the Administration Workstation to allow easy testing of configurations. Next, the database modules should be installed on the Database Machine and configured to be used with the DataSplice Server. Finally the Remote Client can be installed on the handhelds and workstations that will be used by mobile end-users.

The following sections provide detailed instructions for each step.
