Testing the Plug-in
After the plug-in has been installed and configured, some basic steps can be performed to ensure that all of the pieces are functioning correctly. Some of these steps may have been previously completed during the initial DataSplice installation. If not, they should be completed at this time.
- Creating an ODBC Data Source - This specifies the data source you will be using. Note: When connecting to Oracle databases, we recommend using the Microsoft-provided driver, rather than the Oracle-provided driver. Under most circumstances, the Microsoft-provided driver tends to work better with the DataSplice Server.
- Launching the DataSplice Server - The DataSplice Server needs to be started before it can receive connections.
- Connecting to the DataSplice Server - Once the DataSplice Server is running, you can now connect to it.
- Enabling Functionality with a Valid License Key - The license key "unlocks" the full capabilities of the DataSplice Server.
- Creating a Connection Profile - This connection profile tells DataSplice how to display data for the Maximo views installed by the plug-in. Note: The views included with the plug-in have a default connection profile name of
maximo. If desired, the name used for the connection profile can be something other thanmaximo. Keep in mind, however, that the connection profile associated with each view will need to be changed accordingly. - Testing Available Views - By previewing the data in the Administration Client, you can ensure that the database is being queried correctly. If errors are encountered, click the Details link on the error dialog box to expand the window and display additional information about the problem.
- Performing a Transaction in the Remote Client - To fully test the event action capabilities of the plug-in, connect to the DataSplice Server with the Remote Client and attempt to perform a record transaction. Be sure to complete an insert of a new record or an edit to an existing record, as a simple record search does not adequately test all of the plug-in features. If any errors are received, examine the error details for additional information.
