Cinco de Mucho Food
The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexicans over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is not, as many people think, Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16. Cinco de Mayo, or May 5 is a not the Mexican Independence Day (as many in the US think)..in fact, its not even a national holiday. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, with some recognition in other parts of the Mexico. It actually finds one of its largest celebrants in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population. All I know is that it means FOOD and lots of it!(ooh...and maybe some margaritas...but that's besides the point). So, to help you on your way, here are some great recipes.
Celebrations in the US are often much larger than those in Mexico, complete with parades, music, pinatas, and a huge feast.
