I wanna be a Cowboy I wanna be a Cowboy

Whoa! It is August already? Well, out west that means county/state fairs and rodeos!

Out here in Colorado, you can see real cowboys riding fences and doing round-ups. (Of course if you’re a real cowboy, like my uncle, you’re a cowpoke. He thinks cowboys just wear fancy duds and expensive if impractical boots). To get a sense of the old west, you have to attend a rodeo!

If you’ve never been to a rodeo, then you’re in for a treat. The first event is mutton busting. That’s right…sheep riding! Youngin’s (you have to get the vernacular right), tries to ride sheep. Then it’s up to the older kids that will simply amaze you, moving up to the pro rodeo riders, with their safety net: the rodeo clowns. Try to get a seat by the chutes if you can.

The local favorite rodeos are the Greeley Stampede, which is around July 4, and Cheyenne Frontier Days, which just wrapped up its end of July run.
