Display Settings

This section covers the actions displayed to the user in the Remote Client and how they can support various work processes.

The Edit Display Settings section in the view editor supports defining the actions that are available to the user in the navigation menu that support performing various predefined tasks.

Edit Display Settings

The navigation actions are used by the Remote Client application for several purposes:

  • The main view selection screen will display actions that reference the parent query to allow multiple starting points for the user to select.
  • Items are displayed in the navigation menu to allow the user to select them and explicitly perform the action.
  • Actions can be explicitly referenced by event bindings and executed during event processing.

Navigation Actions

Use the toolbar to add, remove, and reorder the available actions for the view. Each action has several options in common:

  • Navigation Action - Read only option that shows the type of action that will be performed when the action is performed.
  • Action Name - Unique name used to reference the action. This label will show up when the action is available to the user.
  • Navigation Menu - An expression that controls when the action is displayed in the navigation menu.
  • Common Action - An expression that specifies if the action should be directly available to the user. This currently only has effect on Windows Mobile devices, and causes the action to be displayed in the left system menu.
  • Default - Specifies the default action. Directly selecting a view from the main screen will perform the default action if one is defined.

Several different action types are available:

DisplayQuery

This will display either a predefined search screen or the results of a particular query.

Display Query Navigation Action

  • Display Mode - Controls which display mode is presented when the user selects the action, which has the following options available:
    • Display Filter - Shows a search screen pre-populated with the specified query values.
    • Display Grid/Record - Executes the specified query and displays the results in either grid or record display mode.
    • Auto Display - Similar to the above, but displays the results in record mode if one record matches the query and otherwise uses grid mode.
  • Run Query Locally - Performs the search against the local data on the device, even if connected to the server. This is useful to search for modified values that have not yet been committed to the server.
  • Query - Specifies the target query. This can be the current view, which will display a filter or some set of data within that view, or a another view to display child records or other related data.

CreateRecord

This will create a new record within the target view given the specified settings.

Create Record Navigation Action

  • Target View - Specifies which view to create the record in. If this references the parent view the new record is added to the current set of records being displayed, otherwise the target view is displayed and the new record is shown in single record mode.
  • Record Values - Passes additional data to the new record. These values are handled after any default field values, so they will overwrite these values if specified.

ExecuteCommand

Executes a custom event or an arbitrary expression. Performing custom events is the most common use of this action type, but it can also be used to directly call client side function described in the Expression Functions and Commands section.

Execute Command Navigation Action

The options are the same as described for the Execute Command event action as described in the Event Details and Actions section. Note that the Disposition option is not available - the command will always be executed in the client context.
