Initial Configuration

This describes the initial configuration steps needed to get DataSplice running and connected to the target data sources.

Starting the DataSplice Service

  1. Start the service through the Control Panel and wait for it to initialize
  2. Run the DataSplice Administration Client and connect for the first time using the following credentials:
  3. Login Prompt

    • User Name: Admin
    • Password: changethis (you will be prompted to enter a new password)
    • Domain: DataSplice
    • DataSplice Server: localhost (or the appropriate server address if not running the Administration Client locally)
  4. Install the required licenses for the server:
    • Demonstration licenses can be obtained by contacting DataSplice support
    • For permanent installations, license files need to be generated to match the Server Key associated with each instance
      • Email this key to DataSplice support to have the licenses generated
    • Select Actions -> Install License from the menu on the main screen and paste in the available license(s)
  5. Configure the ADO.NET connection profiles (described below)
  6. Configure any additional server plug-ins:

Server Settings Screen

After connecting, an initial screen is displayed with basic information about the server.

Server Settings

  • Max Threads - Controls the maximum number of worker threads that will be created to process client requests. This value rarely needs to be changed.
  • Client Timeout - Specifies the timeout, in minutes, after which idle client connections will automatically be disconnected.
  • Server Administrator - Email address that will be displayed to users to obtain additional help.

Licensing Details

Licenses are installed by choosing Actions -> Install License from the menu.

All permanent licenses are tied to a particular production instance of DataSplice. In addition, any number of additional server licenses can be generated for development and testing. These instances will work the same as the main production instance with the addition of a message after connecting indicating that the user is connected to a test instance.

In addition to server and test licenses, you will receive additional product licenses to enable the server to handle the specified number of concurrent connections. Any number of product licenses can be installed so you can increase the capacity of a server simply by purchasing additional licenses.

Active Sessions

Selecting Active Sessions on the left will display information regarding the current connections to the server, as well as any offline sessions:

Active Sessions

Sessions can be revoked if needed by selecting them and choosing Actions -> Revoke Session from the menu.

Server Plug-ins

The left pane also contains a list of all the plug-ins loaded on the server. Selecting an item will display specific options for that plug-in (if any are available). The specific settings for the default plug-ins will be covered in later sections.

Items shown with a strikeout font are disabled. This state can be changed by selecting Enable Plug-in or Disable Plug-in from the Actions menu.
