1 These values are highly dependent on many factors; primarily, how many offline users exist and the size of the offline data sets in use.
2 Non-volatile storage media is not required, but is highly recommended. When installed on non-volatile storage, the DataSplice files are retained even in the event that the device loses all battery power or otherwise gets reset. If the files are not installed on non-volatile storage, they will be lost in such an event.
3 The SQL Server desktop engine or an instance of SQL Server is only required if the Remote Client on the Win32 desktop environment is going to be used in *offline* mode. In such cases, the SQL Server desktop engine or an installed instance of SQL Server is required because the Remote Client application needs a valid data store to house all of the offline records.
4 Microsoft ActiveSync is only required if the DataSplice Windmill provisioning service is not being utilized. If the DataSplice Remote Client is being manually installed on a mobile device, then ActiveSync must be installed on both the mobile device and the host machine being used. The host machine can be either the server computer or a workstation, as long as the Windows CE component files were selected in the setup wizard during installation on the host machine.
