2 Non-volatile storage media is not required, but is highly recommended. When installed on non-volatile storage, the DataSplice files are retained even in the event that the device loses all battery power or otherwise gets reset. If the files are not installed on non-volatile storage, they will be lost in such an event.
3 The SQL Server desktop engine or an instance of SQL Server is only required if the Remote Client on the Win32 desktop environment is going to be used in offline mode. In such cases, the SQL Server desktop engine or an installed instance of SQL Server is required because the Remote Client application needs a valid data store to house all of the offline records.
4 Microsoft ActiveSync is only required if the DataSplice Windmill provisioning service is not being utilized. If the DataSplice Remote Client is being manually installed on a mobile device, then ActiveSync must be installed on both the mobile device and the host machine being used. The host machine can be either the server computer or a workstation, as long as the Windows CE component files were selected in the setup wizard during installation on the host machine.
