Running the Plug-in Configurator

After the setup wizard is complete, an entry for the .NET integration plug-in configurator will be placed in the Start menu. It is important that the DataSplice Server is not running when the configurator is being used. Launch the configurator through the Start menu to input the remaining settings.

Start Menu Configurator Entry

The plug-in configurator provides a friendly interface to assign the various settings required by the plug-in.

Identifying the MAXIMO® Server & Default Login Information

Complete the text fields in the Configurator to correctly identify the MAXIMO® server and specify the login credentials to use for obtaining the domain listing.

Field Name Explanation
MAXIMO® Server The computer name or IP address of the MAXIMO® server. If the RMI port is different than the default, 1099, then the port number is also required.

Example:

maxprod:726 specifies that maxprod is the MAXIMO® server and 726 is the RMI port being used. Alternatively, the MAXIMO® server's IP address, followed by the RMI port number, can be entered instead of the computer name. In this case, an entry such as 192.168.45.1:726 specifies that 192.168.45.1 is the IP address of the MAXIMO® server computer and 726 is the port being used for RMI communication.

If the RMI port is not known, it can be discovered by examining the MXServer.properties file in the root MAXIMO folder on the MAXIMO® server computer. Within this file, there is an entry for mxe.rmi.port=X, where X is the RMI port number. If this is set to 0, RMI communication will use any available port on the system.

If multiple instances of MAXIMO® are running on the server computer, the desired instance must be specified. This is accomplished by appending the MAXIMO® server name with the port number used for Java RMI communication and the instance name, prefaced by a colon and a forward slash, respectively.

Example:

If the server name is maxprod, the RMI port is 1099, and the instance name is production, the MAXIMO® Server field would be maxprod:1099/production.

Site The MAXIMO® site corresponding to the given user name. Sites are used in MAXIMO® to differentiate unique sections within an organization. Each site can have unique data and work methods, while still being a part of the same organization.
User Name An existing MAXIMO® user with administrator-level privileges.
Note: DataSplice users logged in to the Remote Client will not use this user name information when connecting to the DataSplice Server. Rather, they will be authenticated with their own unique credentials as maintained by MAXIMO® signature security.
Password The password corresponding to the given user name.

Identifying the MAXIMO® Patch Level

In this section, the patch level of the MAXIMO® server is identified. This is a necessary step which allows DataSplice to use the correct plug-in files for that specific version.

Patch Level

To attempt to automatically identify the correct patch level of the MAXIMO® server, click the Discover MAXIMO® Patch Level button. Allow the configurator a few moments to locate this information. If the configurator can correctly identify the server and version information, it will display the relevant information in the MAXIMO® 5.x Patch Level field. If it is unable to automatically locate the version information, a dialog message to this effect will be displayed. In this case, the server patch level must be manually selected from the dropdown list.

Specifying the Database Platform

The next section allows you to specify the database platform being used. This selection determines the specific views that the configurator will load for the DataSplice Server. Currently, there are options available for Oracle and SQL Server.

Choosing the Communication Method

The remaining section of the configurator allows you to specify the communication method you wish to use. Please see the next section for further details.
