Backing up Existing Server Components

The most important item of the entire upgrade process is to back up the existing DataSplice configuration. This provides the ability to roll back to the existing installation if something goes wrong during the upgrade.

The easiest way to back up the relevant information for an existing installation is to make a copy of the entire Storage directory from the DataSplice installation path. To accomplish this, perform the following tasks.

  • Shut down all currently-running DataSplice components.
  • Open Windows Explorer on the server computer and browse to the DataSplice installation path. By default, this is C:\Program Files\DataSplice3.
  • Right-click the Storage folder and choose Copy from the resulting menu.
  • In Windows Explorer, browse to a pre-determined location, such as the Desktop.
  • Right-click and choose Paste from the resulting menu. A copy of the Storage folder should appear in this location.

Because the Storage folder contains all of the views, attributes, and customizations of the existing installation, it is safe to continue with the upgrade process after the steps above have been completed.
