Backflow prevention is serious business. Prevention devices are designed to protect water supplies from contamination due to backflow, cross-connections, and back siphonage. Inspecting and repairing devices is an important task for the inspectors in the Pinellas County Utilities Water Department. They had to deal with redundant data entry and paperwork, and workers in the field could not check pending work orders, or request a follow-up work order at the inspection site. This, combined with labor intensive back office reports caused delays in dual check valve (DUC) inspections, repairs and regulatory procedures.

Utilizing handheld technology, Pinellas County Utilities has improved their backflow device testing, repair and module change out. They now capture maintenance information more quickly and efficiently. By using DataSplice, inspectors now use a single screen, configured specifically for the process, which enables the user to quickly complete the test, issue the “puck” kit, report labor time, enter reasons for additional time used and report additional work required.

Our user interface remains constant across many applications, making access to multiple databases and their information seamless to the end user.

Information displayed on the handheld can be easily customized to show the user the information they need, when they need it, in the order in which they need it.
