Mobile Equipment and Asset Managment
Utility Provider Solutions:

Calpine manages over 86 power plants within the US, and was contending with very high overhead costs associated with large asset equipment on hand in several plants. They needed a way to streamline and share inventory across plants in order to reduce excessive overhead in real time.

They implemented an inventory solution configured by DataSplice to accommodate their current inventory tracking process and automate key steps with a mobile handheld unit. Calpine was able to:

  • Lower equipment costs by introducing a parts sharing program fleet wide that resulted in a savings of $100,000 per plant
  • Shrink inventory costs company wide utilizing real time inventory control and reduced inventory costs per plant by $50,000
  • Increase productivity by eliminating many time-consuming manual processes and tasks and streamlining them for the handheld at a cost savings of $23,000 annual savings per site
  • A company-wide cost savings of $10 million as new plants are added.
