 • Launch Application on client

Posted by aarogerm at 2005-11-03 04:50 PM

I would like to launch an application on the client's pc based on an insert in datasplice. So far I it will only run on the datasplice server.

I'm trying to launch our mapping software and locate a device the device that is part of the work order on the datasplice screen for employees in the field.

I've created the application and event to launch the external application, but it requires that the application be on the server. Is there some way to point the working directory path to the local pc the client is running on instead of the datasplice server?

The event actions configured for a view always execute on the server, so the 'Run Application' action is only useful for shelling applications on the server in response to modification events. They cannot be used to start application on the client.

The only way this would be possible would be to create a client plug-in that starts the desired application on the client computer.

Thanks Kunzem, that's what I thought. I'm not all that familiar with programming plug-ins. Would you happen to have some sample code or prepackaged plug-ins that might accomplish what I'm looking for?

Unfortunately we don't really have anything packaged at the moment for external developers to create their own plug-ins. This is something we will be addressing with DataSplice 3 at some point, but this would probably need to be developed in-house at the moment.
